More than 200 educators, community leaders and supporters gathered Monday, Aug. 3, for the fourth annual WEA Member Benefits Foundation Swing For a Cause event, raising more than $48,000 to support school-based mental health programs in Wisconsin public schools.
“The continued success of Swing For a Cause reflects the incredible commitment of our community to support student well-being,” Foundation Executive Director Steve Goldberg said. “The funds raised will help strengthen school mental health programs and provide meaningful support for students across Wisconsin.”
The event featured a golf tournament and concluded with a dinner and program highlighting the Foundation’s efforts to support student well-being and recognizing the finalists in the statewide student art contest.
Ten students were named finalists, and Beth Bade, an incoming senior at Lake Mills High School, received the Loeymae Lange “Best in Class” Award. Bade’s painting, Fish out of Water, was selected from more than 200 entries across the state. The award includes a $1,500 cash prize.
“I have been her art teacher since she was in 8th grade, and her dedication, creativity, and work ethic is just astounding,” Lake Mills High School Art Teacher Keriann Kirkeng said. “Thank you to WEA Member Benefits Foundation for continuing to support student artists and recognizing the importance of creativity and student wellness.”
